Community Action TeamsAging Well volunteer Community Action Teams are in communities throughout greater Lyons Township. The teams include older adults and individuals from community based organizations working together to address aging issues in their local communities. Recent Community Action Team Projects:Monthly community forums on various aging topics Reading programs with local schools Discount shopping programs for seniors Theatre play reading and discussion program Flu shot clinics Health & safety fairs Distribution of the File of Life, a medical information packet designed to provide emergency personnel with necessary medical data to begin immediate treatment Distribution of cell phones for 911 emergency use Monthly community health clinics Annual senior picnics Get Involved in a Community Action Team to Help Make Your Community Elder FriendlyChoose Your Own Level of Involvement Attend monthly meetings to share your ideas Plan an ongoing or a one-time team project Provide information to libraries, park districts & clubs Distribute flyers to local businesses or organizations Coordinate a community presentation Staff an exhibit table at a local health fair To find out more information about your local Community Action Team, contact Aging Well Volunteer Specialist Annette McClain at (708)354-1323 ext. 19.
