Greater Lyons Township consists of 20 communities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.  Approximately 200,000 people live here.

• 16%, or about 32,000 people, are over the age of 65 
• Almost 19,000 are women and 13,000 are men

• 87% of the population of all ages in these communities is white 
• The African American population primarily lives in Justice (20%) Summit (12%) and LaGrange (6%)
-By 2010, the African American’s over age 60 will increase by 78%
• Greater Lyons Township has a Hispanic/Latino population of 11.6%. 
- The majority of individuals are of Mexican descent  
- By 2010, the number of Hispanic older adults over age 60 will increase by 108%

• Older adults ages 65 to 75 have an average median income of $42,444
• Older adults age 75 and older have an average median income of $29,607 
• 239 men and 1,039 women over age 65 live below the federal poverty line ($8,350 per year in 2000)
• Older women make up the majority of seniors in poverty; 669 women living in poverty are over age 75
