Planning for the Future

Goal

The Planning for the Future workgroup will create an educational campaign to increase knowledge among older adults and Boomers about their planning options, including wills, trusts, power of attorney, home modifications and health care. They will determine the best methods to engage older adults through education and will review existing planning materials.

In order to promote comprehensive personal planning, the Planning for the Future workgroup researched and developed the guide, “Starting the Conversation: A Greater Lyons Township Guide to Health, Home, Financial and Legal Preparedness”. 10,000 copies of the guide have been printed and will be distributed throughout the Aging Well community. The workgroup will continue to outreach to the community about the need to plan for the future. Workgroup members will offer panel presentations to community groups or businesses free of charge. All panel presentations will include a diverse group of professionals and the hosting organization or group can determine the topics covered by the group. Accomplishments

• Developed and printed “Starting the Conversation: A Greater Lyons Township Guide to Health, Home, Financial and Legal Preparedness”.
• Hosted an event featuring Chicago Sun-Times personal finance columnist, Terry Savage to inform the community about how to become financially prepared for one’s later years
• Conducting panel presentations to promote comprehensive personal planning
